After a seemingly never ending summer break it is time. Tyler starts school. It is the first day of High School. He starts at Highland High School. So far he seems to have had a very good start. School is interesting, teachers are still nice and of course there is the social life that becomes more and more important.
Meanwhile Sydney has got sick...again. I do not know how we could handle this if not for Christy taking time off and taking care of Sydney. This causes quite a challenge for Christy, because today is also Open House. That is the night, students and their parents visit teachers to get to know each other. Of course this does not work unless the teacher is present.
Tyler was kind enough to watch hist sister. She is probably fine with this...she adores her ya-ya (her term for Tyler.)
Thomas is busy in Dallas where he works for a milk processor. The goal is to install a base infrastructure for future Business Intelligence projects. As always the details are challenging.

Weekend again...we started off pretty well. Thomas came home on time, got a rental car and headed home. (A little Nissan with strong acceleration.)
Friday was the day to bring Christy's car back to the dealer. One more thing to fix. Good advice to all car buyers, never buy a first year model, there are just too many things that need fixing. Anyway, Thomas spent the rest of the day at work in the office. Meanwhile Christy drove the zippy Nissan to her work and Tyler took the bus to school.
In the afternoon things became hectic. After getting the Beamer back from the dealer, Thomas fought his way through traffic. Hard to believe that traffic is so bad from 3:30pm on. Well, Christy met up, we returned the car and headed home to prepare for a night out in town. After several failed attempts we managed to go out with the Smith family. The chosen place was Kincaid's. It had mixed reviews but we can only report good things about this place. After a breaded, warm brie and some flank steak amuse-bouches we moved on to real food. It was simply delicious and the dessert crowned a wonderful evening.
Saturday, the usual stuff. Grocery shopping, running around to get errands done. Outstanding:
- Thomas sold his first item on eBay. After postal and eBay fees he made a profit of 25$, easy money seems like.
- After many years, Thomas closed the Desert Schools credit union account
- We found some time to go swimming together
- 3rd family home evening (well guys, we have it on Satuday); this time under the direction of Thomas on the topic of change
And in closing...please find below the goofy picture of the week: Tyler having gone wild in the play structure.

Ok, so it is official now. We will be relocating to Melbourne, Australia. After several months of stopping and going in the transfer process, Thomas has received a job offer for a position in Melbourne, Australia. He will be working for one of Accenture's largest clients, a customer in the telecommunications industry. Once more new challenges with a large complex project.
The count down is on...we plan on heading down under in mid October. It will be a challenge to get all the stuff done, closed and finalized on the US end before starting a new chapter.
The US has been home for 10 years for me and much longer for Christy. We are excited to start a new chapter in our life and partnership by heading to Christy's other place of citizenship.
Updates will follow...stay tuned

Australia...it is official
Finally the Labor Day weekend arrived in the US. We enjoyed a good three day weekend together as a family.
On Friday we met with our group of people, the Coffee House group. This dates back well into Thomas' early times in the US. After having been there on a regular basis, a bunch of people kept meeting and following each other through ups and downs in life. We had a lot of stimulating discussions, each of us coming from a different background. We have a very diverse group in terms of origin, religion and age. Maybe this is the major reason why we forged so well. It will be sad to not being able to meet with this great group. (At the same time we do hope that they will be visiting! No pressure, Ali.) Pictures will follow.
On Sunday we announced our impending departure to the church members. We got a lot of echo. There, too it will be hard to move from such great a ward. This is most definitely the best ward I have had the privilege to be a guest in. As I said, this is but another chapter in Christy and my journey and we will have to turn the page, start a new chapter and seek the new challenges and opportunities. Still, we do hope to be able to return and visit.
Monday, we started in the zoo. For once we took a different route. This time we saw a completely new set of animals. It was hot. After about 90min we left and headed for lunch. Sydney was so tired. She fell asleep immediately after arriving at home. This gave Christy and Tyler the chance to make good on a slurpy from Jamba Juice. Back again we got to swim in the backyard. The pool's temperature is great. No longer as warm as during the peak summer days.
Did I mention, I submitted the Visa requests for Australia. Now Sydney needs to get a health checkup. One more think to do.

Okay, as we sift through all our stuff we have (and most of it don't need) I came across a whole bunch of wireless webcams. This was the perfect excuse to get distracted and do something else.
As a result you can see the pictures on the front page. One camera points from the first floor to the backyard into the street. The view reflects what I see from the office. The other camera shows the view from the entrance door. All the pictures are updated in a 10 min rhythm throughout the daytime when there is sufficient light.
