After some challenges we eventually made the trip to Hawaii and celebrated the New Year in Waikoloa. What a year it has been. Christy enjoyed her lighting massive box of fireworks as can be seen in the movie below. We compressed the hour fun into a short 1 minute movie.

We were surprised to hear that our place in Hawaii would become available over Christmas; the tenants had found work on the main island and decided to move there. At the same time Australia decided to open the borders and allow international traffic again. Needless to say, we were keen on visiting the Big Island after not having been in Hawaii for two years.
Things have changed quite a bit, housing development seems to catch up with us; the US fights with similar problems as we do, increase in infections, problems with availability of supply, price increases. Then again, we had a good time and made the best out of it as the pictures below demonstrate.

We also enjoyed having Natalie and Niah visiting us for a few days. Thanks for the company.

With the school holidays starting and the inability to travel internationally (the world is still reeling with COVID) we decided to try out the Sydney area we missed over Christmas. Christy found us a small, but nice place in Maroubra some 800m from the beach.
Once more we travelled up there by car. This time, the trip was not as gruesome. Just some 10h door to door. Again, we took Coco along. At the place we managed to relax and enjoy the beach despite Daddy having to spend several days working during the trip.
While there we enjoyed the Maroubra, Coogee and Bondi beaches. The waves were incredible and reminded us of Hawaii in winter. (Well, the waves were a little tamer.) Christy and Sydney made it to the Hardrock Café in Darling Harbour and found a new place to enjoy macarons since Adriano Zumbo was no longer available.

As always towards winter in Australia, Sydney's birthday is coming up. This year we decided to celebrate it earlier as she was going to go to Hartzer, a four week school away from school experience with her school. She decided to invite her besties from school to a mini golf outing (and some delicious cake.)

Having been really bad posting updates of what is going on. For this reason I will resort to more of a monthly (or quarterly) view and publish this one, hopefully, more timely
September has come and gone. With this, three quarter of the year have gone by. We have spent the whole month in lockdown. COVID case started to spike in NSW first and VIC got some of theirs seeing a massive spike as well. It became very apparent that the 0 case doctrine would no longer hold. Still, we are in lockdown as the vaccination program was messed up. At this time we slowly start to see changes coming up.
This said, we were limited in how far and how often we could go out. This led to more focus on cooking up food and trying out some new recipes, looking into the nature and see good photo opportunities and, last but not least I have purchased a drone to try out something new.
As it turns out flying a drone is more complex, so the pictures are by far not as good as I want at this time.
Enough of writing here are the pictures:

With the move to our new place we have managed to nudge closer to the beach allowing us to be within 5km from the beach line. For this reason we have tried to go to the beach whenever the weather permitted it. With us was Coco who enjoyed the warming weather. One day we even managed to also have Tyler join us.

And of course, what would a month at home be without some food. Om this case some pictures from self made flat breads that can be loaded in many different ways.
