Okay, so another year is coming to an end. This time we spent it in Melbourne and were invited by our dear friends (Travis/Michelle/Emma/Isaac) to go together to the Yarra Park. This park is close to the MCG.
We arrived there, had some dinner and waiting with excitement for the fireworks. It was spectacular!
Happy New Year to everybody.

he first time in 5 years we have decided to spend Christmas away from home and extended family. We also decided to spend it in the region rather than heading to our beloved Hawaii.
So Fiji sounded like the right place to go for a few days of sun, fun and mocktails. Christy found a good arrangement which allowed us to try out two different resorts. We stayed first in the Hideaway Resort followed by five days in the Plantation Island Resort.
The first place was ok. We spent a lot of time being sick (first Daddy with a cough, followed by Sydney with her usual ear infection after having spent entirely too much time in the freshwater pool.)

After over two years we finally managed to get back to the paradise on Oahu. As in the past Christy has done a marvelous job to organize our trip. We got our beloved condo 11 steps from the beach. It served as a basis for our various adventures.
We spent several afternoons snorkeling right outside the apartment and saw some really nice reef fishes, turtles and a spotted eagle ray. There was more water sports. We touched base with Ricardo from Hawaii Eco-Divers. He has opened a little store now and we participated on two dive turns. The first one brought us to Shark's Cove where we enjoyed two shallow, shore dives. The second one was amazing as we managed to get through the lava caverns and also visited the blue room. The second dive was to a wreck (Mahi Wreck) where we saw some rays hovering in the current followed by another cavern dive (Mahaka Caverns).
Dave joined as for the second part of the vacation. He stayed in another condo close to ours and in Turtle Bay. He managed to get onto the dive with us which was great.
Sydney was happy beyond belief. She loved the water interaction and of course being able to be with her grandpa.

It is amazing to see how technology has changed the way how we live. As a reminder of this are all the pictures we have taken with our iPhones and iPads.
Throughout the trip we have used the reliable Cannon G10 camera to take water, underwater and some of the other pictures. However with the omnipresence of mobile phones, many of the memorable moments have been recorded by taking a quick shot on these devices
The following shows a subset of the pictures, Christy, Sydney, Dave and I have taken over the course of our trip.

This year Sydney turned eight! Amazing how time flies.
Christy has been busy organizing a great birthday party for Sydney. She found a circus school where all the kids could play for a few hours with the circus equipment such as the trapeze, the tight rope and more.
Another highpoint of this day was that Summer and cousin Noah visited us from Queensland. (Brave effort to get into the cold of Melbourne!) They also helped a lot with the preparations. Needless to say the kids had a great time and we had far too much food.
